Description

These Frankenstein & Monster Rice Krispie Treats are the perfect Halloween treat. Kids love them, especially on a stick. Make these for your Halloween party!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 tablespoons salted butter
  • 6 cups rice krispies cereal
  • 5 1/2 cups mini marshmallows
  • 16 ounce vanilla candy coating
  • 3 drops each of purple and green food coloring
  • 2 ounces of black sugar sprinkles
  • candy eyes (You need about 18 eyes)
  • (9) 6 inch treat sticks
  • Black writing gel (near the birthday candles in the baking section) Look for a skinny tip
  • You will also need a 8x8 pan, double boiler or microwave, and parchment paper

Instructions

  1. First, line the 8x8 pan with parchment paper.
  2. Heat a large pot over medium low heat, and add in butter. I let my butter get a bit brown, because I love the butterscotch flavor it creates. Just be sure not to burn it.
  3. Next, add in the marshmallows. Stir them frequently until melted completely. Turn off the heat and add the cereal to the pot, stirring well to incorporate.
  4. Transfer the mixture into the 8x8 pan. I like to rip off another piece of parchment paper to push on the top of the mixture to really form it into the 8x8 pan. Push it in really good.
  5. Allow the rice krispies to cool for about 45 minutes.
  6. Carefully remove the entire square onto a piece of parchment paper and cut into 9 equal squares.
  7. Insert a treat stick into each square.
  8. Melt the vanilla candy coating in the microwave or in a double boiler. I made my own double boiler with a pot filled 1/4 full with water and a glass bowl. Use low heat. If you are using the microwave, read the instructions for melting on bag.
  9. Pour the candy coating into two bowls. One bowl will be colored purple and one green. Add 3 to 4 drops of food coloring into each bowl and stir it up good.
  10. Get a large, clean piece of parchment paper ready to fit all of your rice krispies on after coating.
  11. Pour a pile of black sugar sprinkles onto a plate.
  12. Next, take your rice krispie treats and dip it in to the green coloring. Use a silicon spatula to help spread it along the rice krispie. Don't depend on the stick, you have to hold to bottom of the krispie treat with your hands. I only spread the coating really thick on the front and go light on the back and sides. Once you are finished, dip the green ones in the black sugar sprinkles to give Frankenstein some hair. I only do these with the green.
  13. Add the eyes and set on parchment paper.
  14. Work quickly so that the candy coating doesn't harden. I set my purple bowl over by the stove to keep it warmer.
  15. I typically do 5 Frankensteins and 4 monsters. For the monsters, just dip it in the purple, set on parchment paper and add either 1 or 3 eyes.
  16. After you are finished with all of them, use the black gel to add smiles or frowns on them, and add a little mark for Frankensteins stitches/ head wound (ewww).

Notes

*Be careful with these if you have to transport them. You may want to just wait to add the black gel until serving. It gets all over if you put it into a baggie.*
