Description
This Teriyaki Broccoli is so flavorful and ready to eat in just 15 minutes! The broccoli is sautéed in the skillet until tender with umami flavors from the homemade teriyaki sauce. Make this easy and healthy side dish for dinner tonight.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2-3 heads or crowns of broccoli, rinsed and dried
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 cup room temperature water
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger, peeled and grated fine
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
Instructions
- Wash, then dry the broccoli to avoid the oil popping in the skillet. Chop the broccoli into small florets. Remove the large stalk and discard.
- In a large stainless skillet over medium low heat on the stovetop, add in the sesame oil and allow it to heat up. Toss in the broccoli and drizzle the olive oil over the top of the broccoli. Cook for two minutes. Stir, and cook for another two minutes.
- Have the skillet lid ready in one hand and position it over the top of the pan. Quickly and carefully pour in the water, then close the lid completely. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the water dissolves in the pan.
- While the broccoli is steaming, make the teriyaki sauce by combining the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, ginger, and garlic. Stir to combine.
- Uncover the pan and pour in the sauce. Stir to coat the broccoli. Cover and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until tender.
- Top with sesame seeds if desired, then serve and enjoy!
Notes
- I recommend a stainless steel skillet for even cooking and for the way it sears the broccoli.
- Be extremely careful when adding the water and be ready to cover immediately to avoid any oil popping. It hurts.
