Description
These Sprinkle Sugar Cookies are so festive for Christmas and a must make addition to the holiday cookie platter. They're super easy to make and you can choose your favorite sprinkles.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 and 1/4 cup all purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup sprinkles
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
- In a stand mixer bowl with beater attachment (or large bowl with hand mixer), cream together the softened butter and sugar on medium low speed for 2 minutes. Scrape down the sides as needed.
- Add egg, vanilla extract and mix on medium low speed until blended, about 60 seconds.
- Pour in dry ingredients and blend on low speed, just until combined. Refrigerate the dough in the bowl for 1 hour.
- Line 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Roll the dough into balls (about 2 teaspoons in size) and coat the entire outside in sprinkles. Spread about 12 cookies out on each cookie sheet.
- Slightly press down on each cookie just a bit.
- Bake for 11-13 minutes until slightly golden. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes. Note: Avoid handling too much until cooled, because the sprinkle color gets on your hands.
- Serve and enjoy!
Notes
- Allow the butter to soften to room temperature before making the cookies. Properly creamed butter and sugar will help the cookies be airy and light with the best texture.
- Chilling time is required for this recipe because the dough is too sticky to roll into balls without it. Make sure to chill in the fridge for at least 45 minutes to 1 hour. Don't leave in the fridge longer than 2 hours or it will get too hard to work with.
