Greek Chicken Pita Ingredients with toppings and tzatziki sauce this recipe

I love Greek Pitas and this Tzatziki sauce is DELICIOUS! Everyone can build their own pita, which my kids really enjoy! They are so stinking picky, but I’ll save that for another day. I feel like it’s almost a variation of taco night, but a greek version.

What you need and how to make the Tzatziki Sauce:

The tzatziki sauce needs to sit in the fridge for an hour, so prep that first.

Total time: 1 hour and 15 minutes, but I promise it isn’t that labor intensive

This is the best part, so please don’t just throw ranch on the table or I will cry myself to sleep. I eat tzatziki sauce like it’s going out of style…it’s a problem, but I’m learning to live with it. Plus, it’s made with yogurt, so how bad could it be?

Ingredients for Tzatziki Sauce:

  • (2) 7 oz Fage 2% plain greek yogurt
  • ¼ cup cucumber (Remove skin and seeds, then roughly chop)
  • ½ teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon dill
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • Juice from ½ a lemon
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon black pepper

How to Make it:

  1. Toss all of the ingredients into your blender or food processor and blend.
  2. Place into a bowl and cover, then stick it in the fridge for an hour before serving. It makes me want to sing a song when I’m just typing about it..Yum Diddly Dum Dum!

Ingredients & How to Make the Greek Pitas:

Total Time for Greek Pitas: 55 minutes (Make these when tzatziki is cooling in the fridge)

10 minutes to prep, 35 minutes to bake, 10 minutes to cool.

Ingredients for the Greek Pitas:

  • 6 pack of Pita bread
  • 2 cups of Spinach or romaine lettuce
  • 1 cucumber sliced thin
  • 1 cup of crumbled Feta cheese (Oh, how I love thee)
  • 1 cup of Kalamata olives
  • 6 Lemon wedges
  • ½ of a red onion sliced thin
  • 3 chicken breasts uncooked
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon mediterranean seasoning

How to make it:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Pat dry the chicken breast and season with Mediterranean seasoning and salt and pepper and bake on a baking sheet in the oven for 35 minutes. Remove from oven and tent with foil for 5 minutes, then let chicken cool for 3-4 minutes. Slice chicken in strips as seen in the photo, or you can cut more into cubes.
  3. Prepare all of the ingredients and place onto tray or board, so that everyone can build their own.
  4. Warm the pitas in oven for 3-4 minutes right before serving. *It’s important that they are warm so they don’t break apart when eating because that would be an epic fail.

Don't forget the tzatziki sauce for serving! This is the best part!

Notes

Serve with tzatziki dip!

Feel free to leave out the chicken if you are vegetarian. Prefer steak? Try marinating a flank steak, grilling and slicing in thin strips. That would be delicious too!
