Variations & Substitutions:
- I know a lot of people are not huge fans of candy corn. The best thing about this recipe is it's really easy to pick around. If you absolutely loathe it, you can double up on the Reese's Pieces and take out the candy corn to get those Halloween Colors in.
- Another love or it hate item is the bugles. You can leave these out and increase both the rice chex and pretzels by 1 cup each. If you don't mind them, leave them in because the brown sugar and butter sauce likes to gravitate toward them and it really changes the flavor into something AMAZING!
How to Make Halloween Snack Mix (Step by Step Instructions):
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 300 degrees. Prepare a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
Into a large bowl, combine the rice chex cereal, bugles and pretzels. Toss to combine and set aside.
Step 2: In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium low heat. You can also use a microwave to melt it. Turn off the heat and stir in the brown sugar. Pour it into a bowl and whisk it until combined.
Note: The sauce will appear chunky, that's normal.
Step 3: Pour the mixture over the chex snack mixture and toss really well to combine. Spread the chex mix out on the cookie sheet and toss again to make sure the sauce has covered most of the mix. Bake for 30 minutes.
Step 4: Once removed from the oven, allow it to cool for 20 to 30 minutes. Pour in the Heath bits, candy corn, and Reese's pieces.
Step 5: Give it a good toss and it's ready to serve. Enjoy.
Expert Tip:
Don't skip on the cooling time or it will melt the candy.
Storage:
Store the Halloween Chex mix in a sealed container. It will stay fresh for 3 to 4 days.
