This Nutella Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows is so chocolatey and rich. The Nutella adds an amazing addition to this already creamy hot cocoa. Top it off with marshmallows and whipped cream and you will be in heaven!
It's four days before Halloween and it's rainy with cool weather of 60 degrees. You would think it was the dead of winter by how I'm dressed in my LL Bean zip up lined with fur and boots. Hot chocolate was the only solution to warm me up today. It was that or a pumpkin spiced latte, but after 11 am, I've been trying to stay off the caffeine..so hot chocolate it was and this certainly hit the spot.

Why You'll Love This Recipe:
- It only takes a few minutes to make
- The flavor is 100 times better than a microwave packet
- Your kids will beg for this hot cocoa..it's that good! Be mom of the year and make it happen
- The Nutella makes it so creamy and incredible
Make It a Holiday Tradition:
Hot chocolate is super fun because you can add whatever toppings work for the season. If it's near Halloween, I top my hot chocolate with black sugar sprinkles and candy corn, like the photo below. Cinnamon topping works wonders for Fall and of course, crushed Peppermint near Christmas. Super festive!
Ingredients:
Whole milk-Creates a creamy texture. If you can't have dairy, substitute it with a full fat oat milk. I prefer Oat-ly.
Heavy cream-For the ultimate thick cocoa. *If you have dairy issues, you can leave this out, but it won't be quite as rich as this recipe*
Unsweetened Cocoa Powder- Adds the chocolatey flavor
Sugar- For sweetness
Nutella- Adds sweetness, but mostly it's for a chocolate richness that can't be replicated with just cocoa powder. The Nutella is my favorite part about this recipe.
Cinnamon- Just a touch. I love the smell of chocolate and cinnamon together. So stinking good!
Mini Marshmallows & Whipped Cream- Must have toppings for hot chocolate.
Candy corn, black sugar sprinkles, cinnamon, peppermint, chocolate shavings- Optional toppings based on the holiday or season.
Recipe FAQs:
Milk is always the best way to go to create a rich hot chocolate. Water with hot chocolate makes a runny hot chocolate, which doesn't taste good.
If you have dairy allergies and can't tolerate milk, use a full fat oat milk for a creamy texture.

Heat a medium pot on the stovetop over low heat. Add the milk and heavy cream. Stir frequently for 5 to 7 minutes. Do not allow to boil. Turn down the heat if it begins to look like it is going to boil.
Once the milk is warm, add in the unsweetened cocoa powder, sugar, Nutella, and cinnamon. Whisk to combine and continue to cook over low heat. Be sure to combine well. You don't want to drink a chunk of cocoa powder.
Once the hot chocolate is the heat you would like, serve it in a pretty glass. Top with marshmallows, whipped cream and whatever else you love!
