This Chicken Taco Seasoning Recipe is so easy to make at home in a few minutes! Skip the preservatives in the taco packet and make your own homemade taco seasoning. It only combines seven common spices!
I don't think I'll ever buy taco seasoning again. This seasoning is so tasty and keeps those preservatives out of our recipes. The Mexican spices combine for a mild seasoning that is amazing on tacos!
You can use this to spice up lots of different meals for people with dietary restrictions. Check your spices, but they should all be gluten free. It's also keto-friendly. If you're cooking for vegetarians or vegans, it would be delicious mixed into peppers and onions or even in tofu, or on cauliflower.

Ingredients:
Chili Powder: Brings spice into the mix. Chili powder is a spice blend of cayenne, garlic powder, and sometimes onion powder or cumin and salt. The heat can vary based on brand, but I like the kind of heat is brings in. It's much more flavorful with less intensity than just cayenne pepper.
Cumin: A mild, earthy spice that pairs fantastic with many Mexican & TexMex dishes.
Paprika: A sweet and peppery spice. Look for a sweet paprika or regular paprika, and stay away from smoked paprika. In my opinion, smoked paprika can really overpower the other flavors.
Oregano-Just a touch. If you have Mexican oregano, that's great. Otherwise, regular oregano does the job. Mexican tends to be a bit stronger than regular oregano, which is more on the mild side. The differences won't be very noticeable because of the small amount used.
Garlic Powder: For a subtle garlic taste.
Salt and Pepper: To enhance flavor.
Substitutions & Variations:
Love spicy? Add in ¼ to ½ teaspoon of Cayenne Pepper. As far as the heat level goes, I would compare this seasoning to a mild or possibly original packet of taco seasoning.
Mexican oregano or Mediterranean oregano can be used in this recipe.
I don't suggest using smoked paprika. The strength of smoked seasonings can sometimes take over.

Recipe FAQs:
When cooking ground beef, ground turkey, or ground chicken, cook until almost fully browned before adding in the taco seasoning. For chicken breast, chicken thighs, skirt and flank steak, I prefer to marinate the meat prior to cooking with the taco seasoning mix.
