Ingredients:

Apple Pie Filling: Any 20 ounce brand of canned apples works for this recipe, but I really like the Favorite Day brand from Target.
Pie Crust: I recommend the 2 pack of pie crusts that Pillsbury makes. This one is fresh instead of frozen, which is helpful, because you don't have to remember to take it out of the freezer hours before you start the recipe.

Substitutions and Variations:
- You can use frozen pie crusts, but make sure to allow them to defrost fully before assembling.
- Other fillings like blueberry, cherry, strawberry, etc. also work.
- The butter can be swapped out with vegetable oil or cooking spray.
How to Make Apple Pie with Canned Filling:

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Remove the pie dough from the fridge and allow to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes. Grease a pie plate with the butter. Note: Make sure to get the bottom and sides so that it doesn't stick.

Step 2: (1) Unroll 1 of the pieces of pie dough and line the bottom of the pie plate. (2) Add both cans of apple filling on top of the pie dough. (3) Cover with the top piece of pie dough. (4) Cut two small slices in the pie dough using a paring knife.

Step 3: Seal the edge of the pie by using a fork or use a crimping method. I lay my thumb and index finger against the edge so that it looks like a "C" then push my other index finger in between them to create the crimp. Then, just work your way around the whole pie. Whisk together the egg with 1 tablespoon of water and brush over the surface and edges of the pie crust.

Step 4: Bake uncovered for 20 minutes, then tent a piece of foil over the top and bake for another 20 minutes (this will help the top not brown too much). Remove foil and cook for 5 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to sit for 1-2 hours before slicing. It's important for the filling to cool and firm up. Serve with vanilla ice cream and enjoy!
Expert Tips:
- Take the dough out of the fridge about 30 minutes before starting the recipe. The Pillsbury package says it's best to bring the dough to room temperature before rolling out.
- Make sure to seal the edges of the pie. You can crimp shut or use a fork.
- The Pie needs to sit at room temperature for at least an hour (preferably 2 hours) before slicing or the filling will be too hot and run all over the plate.
