This apple cider bourbon cocktail warms the soul on a cold autumn day. This is the perfect cocktail for Fall. I love to top mine with a cinnamon stick and fresh apple slices. This drink works perfectly to serve at a party. You can put the cider mixture in a crock pot to keep it nice and warm for serving.

This recipe would also be great for Halloween night. Here in North Carolina, it could be 75 or 50 degrees on Halloween. You just never know what to expect. However, when it's cold, there is nothing I would rather come home to than warm apple cider after freezing my ass off while my kids collect massive amounts of candy. I also might need a shot of Bourbon to endure the next two hours of madness from my kid's sugar high, hahah!! I promise I'm not a terrible mother.

Tips for this Recipe:

Can I leave out the alcohol?

Sure thing! I make hot apple cider for my kids all the time. They especially love it topped with whipped cream and a little caramel drizzle.

What type of alcohol should I use if I don't like bourbon?

Try Spiced Rum instead!

Can I use more bourbon per glass?

Absolutely! I am a light weight and hardly ever drink, so my drinks are never made strong:)

Time and Servings:

Time to prep: 5 minutes

Time to simmer on stovetop: 20 minutes

Total Time: 25 minutes

Servings: Makes two cocktails

Ingredients for this Delicious, Hot Apple Cider Bourbon Cocktail:

  • 2 cups of apple cider
  • 2 cinnamon sticks + 2 more for garnish (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon of maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon of allspice (or you can use ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon, and ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg, with a tiny dash of clove. Clove is incredibly strong, so I mean a sprinkle)
  • 2 ounces of bourbon (I used Maker's Mark)
  • 2 apple slices for garnish
  • You will also need cocktail glasses, a medium pot, whisk and shot glass

How to Make this Apple Cider Bourbon Cocktail:

Pour cider into a medium pot and add 2 cinnamon sticks, vanilla, maple syrup and allspice. Bring to a boil, whisk well, then reduce the heat to low and cook for another 15 minutes.

Next, add a 1 ounce shot into each cocktail glass. Ladle in the cider over the bourbon to almost the very top of glass. Give it a quick stir.

Lastly, top with a cinnamon stick and apple slices.

Now drink up buttercup!
