I've been watching all of these homemade Sports drink recipes on Instagram and this is my own spin on it. It's not sweet like a typical Sport's drinks and definitely more of a "flavored water."
Watermelon juice packs some serious hydration and nutrients, and paired with the water and coconut water, it's fantastic! It's so hot in North Carolina where I live, and this drink is so satisfying.

Ingredients:
Fresh Watermelon: Fresh Watermelon is high in many nutrients, like potassium and magnesium, which are lost during sweating and crucial for replenishing the body.
Sea Salt: Just a pinch to balance electrolytes.
Coconut Water: I drink these almost everyday in the Summer. I prefer the Kirkland's brand from Costco, but Vita Coco is a good choice too. Make sure to get the plain one or you'll be adding more sugar (from the pineapple juice).

Substitutions and Variations:
- If you want it sweeter, reduce the water and add more coconut water or double up the watermelon.
- For more tangy citrus flavor, use a full lime.
- The mint can be swapped out with basil if you prefer that taste.
Pair this Watermelon Water with a snack like this Pineapple Pico de Gallo or Chunky Guacamole with Tortilla Chips.
How to Make Watermelon Water:
Step 1: Add the fresh watermelon cubes into the blender and blend on high or pulse until smooth.
Step 2: Using a fine mash strainer, pour the watermelon juice in small increments into the strainer over a bowl to remove seeds and pulp. Use the bottom of a spoon to run over the top of the pulp to help push the juices through. Discard the pulp and seeds.
Step 3: Add the ice into a pitcher. Pour in strained watermelon juice, lime juice, water, coconut water and add in the mint sprig and flaky sea salt. Stir or shake to combine.

Step 4: Pour the watermelon water over ice in a glass and enjoy!
Expert Tips:
- I highly recommend straining the watermelon juice to avoid seeds and pulp in the water.
- Serving it over ice makes it ready to drink right away.
- This juice isn't pasteurized, which means it doesn't last long in the fridge. I prefer enjoying it within 24 hours for the safest option.
