Why You'll Love This Recipe:
- Quick and Easy. These Italian Sliders are so simple to whip and are ready to eat in about 15 minutes.
- Flavor Packed. So much taste in one bite sized slider! Great for lunch, dinner or as a game day appetizer.
- Big on Meat and Variety. Three kinds of meat stack onto these sandwiches.
- Lots of textures from the Grinder Salad Topping. The Grinder Salad topping adds so much texture in between the bread. Think coleslaw on a pulled pork sandwich!

Ingredients:
King's Hawaiian Sweet Rolls: The best slider buns for their hint of sweetness with a soft, doughy texture. These hold the filling really well and don't get soggy from the mayo and vinegar based lettuce topping.
Deli Meats and Cheese: Sandwich sliced turkey, ham, salami and provolone cheese pair up for this classic Italian style slider. My favorite way to eat this sandwich is hot, so the cheese gets nice and gooey. I recommend Boar's head meats in varieties like Black Forest Ham and Oven Gold Turkey. These aren't artificially flavored in a way that overpowers the recipe. If you love recipes with deli meat, try these Turkey Roll Ups too.
Iceberg Lettuce: The base of the Grinder Salad topping. It's crisp, refreshing and pairs perfectly with the grinder salad dressing.
Red Onion, Pepperoncini, Banana Peppers: Added for flavor, spice and crunch. Use the juices from the pepperoncini and banana peppers too.
Mayo, Red Wine Vinegar and Spices: Make up a simple and tangy grinder salad dressing that tosses into the lettuce, onions, and peppers.
See the recipe card below for ingredients and quantities.
Substitutions and Variations:
Load up on double the meat if you want or add in other deli classics like roast beef. I would stay away from deli meats with flavoring like maple or cajun, as they don't fit in with the Italian flavors.
If you don't eat iceberg lettuce, use Romaine hearts as a substitute.
Not big on provolone cheese? Any sandwich style cheese works great, like American or Baby Swiss.
I like the original King's Hawaiian Rolls, but the savory butter flavor would be tasty too.

How to Make Chopped Italian Sliders on Hawaiian Rolls:
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees for hot sliders. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, salt, garlic powder and oregano until combined. Set aside.
Step 2: Rinse and dry iceberg wedge, then chop into fine pieces of lettuce.
Step 3: Into a large bowl add in lettuce, onion, pepperoncini and banana peppers with juices. Pour the dressing over the lettuce and toss to combine. Refrigerate until ready to use.
Step 4: Slice the Hawaiian Rolls through the center to create a top and bottom portion. Place both portions on a cookie sheet with the inner portion facing up. Layer turkey, ham, salami then provolone cheese on the bottom half.
Step 5: Bake for 8-10 minutes until toasty and the cheese is melted.
Step 6: Top with ½ of the grinder salad mixture, then close the sliders up with the top portion of the rolls.
Step 7: Slice into 12 individual sliders. Serve with remaining lettuce topping. Enjoy!
Expert Tips:
- I like to top the sliders with half of the salad topping and save half for serving. This makes them easier to cut into 12 pieces too, without losing a bunch of the salad topping (which is my favorite part).
- If you're planning to eat them later, I suggest storing the grinder salad topping in a separate bowl and then topping before eating.

Recipe FAQs:
I find it easiest to wrap 2 sliders together in tin foil. It keeps everything in the package and it's easy to grab and eat right out of the fridge.
I suggest serving them cold if you've already added the lettuce topping. If you haven't added it, reheat the sliders on a cookie sheet in a 350 degree oven for about 10 minutes with a piece of aluminum foil tented over top, so the buns don't burn.

I want to make this for a large gathering. But I would have to assemble a few hours before the gathering starts. Any suggestions to help keep them from getting soggy? Maybe toast top buns too?

Hi James! These will be great for a gathering. The only thing I'd do different than in the recipe is to keep the grinder salad topping in a Tupperware, then add that on right before serving. That's where the soggy part comes in:) Hope you enjoy it!
Lisa
Obsessed with the grinder salad topping on these sandwiches..the whole thing just works! Yum!

I love the salad topping..sometimes I eat in plain like coleslaw 🙂
