Ingredients:
Sour Cream-A thick dairy product with tangy flavor and creamy texture.
Milk- Used to thin out the sauce just a bit. I like whole milk for its high fat content in sauces specifically, but you can use 2% as well. I wouldn't recommend skim, as it is really watery.
Fresh garlic- Gives the sauce a burst of flavor and adds a little texture as well. Raw garlic has a strong taste, so make sure to mince it tiny, so no one bites into a really big chunk.
Green Onion- Another component that adds in fresh flavors and texture. I prefer to use half of the green onion mixed into the sour cream sauce, and half for topping.
Spices-A combination of salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and paprika are used in this sour cream sauce to make it really versatile. See substitutions and variations below for additional options.

Substitutions and Variations:
If you don't want to use sour cream, plain greek yogurt can be substituted in this sauce.
To drizzle over fish or potatoes, consider adding a few dashes of dried dill to the recipe.
For enchiladas or tacos, add in ¼ teaspoon chili powder and cumin and ½ teaspoon fresh lime juice.
Want to heat things up? Mince up a jalapeño and add it to the sauce or a few dashes of hot sauce.
How to Make Sour Cream Sauce:
Step 1: Into a large bowl, add in the sour cream, milk, minced fresh garlic, garlic powder, paprika, onion powder and salt and pepper, along with half of the chopped green onions.
Step 2: Whisk to combine all the ingredients.
Step 3: Serve in a bowl and top with remaining green onion.
Step 4: Enjoy with cheesy smashed potatoes, wings, enchiladas, tacos & more!
Expert Tips:
- Slice the green onion nice and thin for the best texture.
- If the sauce gets too thin, you can add in more sour cream. If it's too thick, slowly add in a teaspoon at a time of milk.
