Vodka Sunrise Ingredients:
Vodka- A liquor that mixes well with several cocktails because of its rather neutral flavor. Vodka and orange juice are a really popular drink, and it only makes it better with the addition of grenadine. You can use any of your favorite Vodka brands, but I would stick with an original vodka, rather than flavored. I used Hanger 1 Vodka made in California and I really like the taste.
Orange Juice- Perfect citrus filled mixer. It also makes this a perfect drink to serve for warm weather months and brunch. Go with pulp free orange juice for a cleaner look and smoother feel.
Grenadine- Made from pomegranate juice to bring in additional sweetness and adds the red color to the cocktail to give it the sunrise effect. It's fruity and delish.
See recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.
Substitutions and Additions:
If you like tequila more than vodka, go with the traditional tequila sunrise and substitute the vodka with tequila (Patron Silver is my personal favorite for a Tequila Sunrise.)
Add Orange Slices or Maraschino Cherries for garnish.
Add in a splash of pineapple juice for additional sweetness.
How to Make a Vodka Sunrise Recipe:
Step 1: Fill a small cocktail glass halfway with ice.
Step 2: Pour in Vodka and Orange Juice and give it a quick stir to combine.
Step 3: Slowly pour in the grenadine. Do NOT stir after you add it to keep the sunrise appearance.
Step 4: Enjoy these perfect Summer cocktails! Top with a straw, orange slice, and/or a cherry.
Expert Tips:
Do NOT stir after adding the grenadine or you will lose the two tone sunrise effect.
Make them right before serving, so the ice doesn't melt.
Recipe FAQs:
Yes! I make these all the time for my kids in the summer. It is a super fun way to fancy up orange juice. Don't forget the cherry or you'll never hear the end of it.
You can stir the orange juice and tequila or vodka, but do NOT stir after adding in the grenadine.
