Ingredients:
Honey- The sweet base of the recipe. I love using local honey to help with my allergies and support local beekeepers. I suggest sticking with a basic clover or wildflower honey, rather than a flavored honey, like lavender for example.
Hot Sauce-Just a few dashes to add in some extra heat. I suggest an original hot sauce, like Franks, Texas Pete, or Cholula.
Apple Cider Vinegar-Cuts down the sweetness of the honey by just a touch.
Red Pepper Flakes- Infuse the perfect amount of heat into the honey.
See recipe card below for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Variations:
For really hot and spicy honey, you can add an additional 1 to 2 teaspoons of red pepper flakes and hot sauce. You can also slice a jalapeno with the seeds and cook it in with red pepper flakes, then strain before using.
If you want to keep all the sweetness and heat, feel free to leave out the vinegar.
How to Make Homemade Hot Honey:
Step 1: Add the honey, apple cider vinegar, red pepper flakes and hot sauce into a medium saucepan over medium low heat. Bring to a low boil for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring every few minutes. Remove from the heat and allow it to cool at room temperature for 30 minutes.
Step 2: Strain the honey through a fine mesh strainer to remove all of the pepper flakes.
Step 3: Store in a sealed container or jar and drizzle over your favorite recipes.
Expert Tips:
If the honey begins to rapidly boil, drop the heat a bit.
Because the honey is so thick, you may need to take a spoon and push down on the red pepper flakes in the fine mesh strainer to push all the honey through.
The longer you allow the honey mixture to infuse at room temperature, the spicier it will get.
Recipe FAQs:
Hot honey drizzles perfectly over pizzas and any kind of fried chicken! It also is a great addition to add to a simple charcuterie board. Try it over veggies too, like these Crispy Cauliflower Bites, Air Fryer Zucchini Chips and Smoked Vegetables.
Hot honey is made up of honey infused with hot peppers. Sometimes fresh peppers are used or you can make it easy and use red pepper flakes, like in this recipe.
Storage:
Store in a sealed container on the countertop for up to a week. If you put the honey in the fridge, it will solidify and need to sit out before using.
